Sometimes, people will ask me how I feel about my work, and my response is simple: I love what I do! I love having the opportunity to serve, and I love the challenges and opportunities that come with using the Web and electronic communications as a tool for service.
I started out as a graphic and Web designer, and sometime copywriter, but after a few years moved towards web development and electronic communications coordination. This line of work seemed to evolve somewhat naturally into focusing on Web usability, and the strategic planning of how the Web could be used as a self-service tool. The more I got involved with strategic planning, the more I became involved with leading initiatives and giving direction.
After a period of providing leadership guidance and strategic direction, I realized that I was at a turning point and ready to move into a management position. The very first position I came across, after having this realization, was a Career Builder posting for the eServices Manager at MESSA, the position I currently hold.
Finding this position at MESSA and being ready to make a move was pure serendipity. MESSA, a smart, efficient and cost-effective East Lansing-based company that employs more than 270 people throughout the state, has a long history of serving public educators’ health care needs with award-winning customer service. It’s this legacy of service, and the emphasis that MESSA puts on it, that made me want to join the MESSA team.
These days, I spend my time working with my team-members, strategizing for the Web, and focusing on the improvement and creation of electronic services that we deliver to our members. In many ways, this is my dream job, and through all of my various working experiences, I never thought that all of them would wrap up so neatly into my current position.
