I started working with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra in July 2007 as Box Office & Development Manager. In June 2008, I was promoted to Director of Communications & Ticket Sales. In July 2010, I began my current position as Director of Education & Community Engagement, which is a wonderful combination of my educational background and knowledge of the orchestra.
As Director of Education & Community Engagement, I am responsible for planning and implementing educational programs that involve area youth with their community’s orchestra. These programs include two free Young People’s Concerts, which bring 3,000 area elementary school children to the Wharton Center for a performance of the Lansing Symphony; a Side-by-Side Performance, which gives local high school students the opportunity to perform side-by-side with professional musicians in a live performance; Music in Our Schools presentations, which bring ensembles into elementary schools to help the students explore classical music in their own setting; and our Symphony Youth Competition, which gives student instrumentalists an opportunity to audition as a soloist and receive feedback on their work – winners get a chance to perform as soloist with the Lansing Symphony!
Along with the Educational Programs, I am also responsible for all public relations, ticket sales, social media and website content for the Lansing Symphony. I also act as volunteer liaison, working to engage our over 150 volunteers in a variety of projects throughout the season.
My current position with the orchestra allows me to connect with our community in a very real and meaningful way. Each day, I interact with students, teachers, parents, volunteers, interns, patrons, Board members and musicians who all have a vested interest in this orchestra. I am a part of an amazing organization that is growing in quality, impact and stability each year.
