The Potter Park Zoo, located in Lansing, Michigan, is accepting applications for a 9 month, paid zookeeper internship program to start the first week of October 2012. This internship will provide practical experience for those interested in the zoo keeping field. Interns will work alongside the zookeepers in many aspects of their profession including exhibit maintenance and upkeep, diet preparation, enrichment, assisting with veterinary procedures, record keeping and public presentations. The intern will work throughout the zoo including domestic and exhibit animals. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects. Applicants must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, and/or wet conditions. The work schedule will include holidays and weekends. Preference will be given to applicants who have already graduated from a college or university.
