GENERAL SUMMARY: Highly skilled and technical position that is involved with coding Symitar applications while working directly with System Analysts as well as Credit Union staff to ensure effective, efficient, and error free source code. Applications include core processing, demand inquiries and file maintenance, home banking, and AIX shell scripting. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: develops programming code and provides support for the credit union’s mainframe system--Symitar’s Episys system. Develops programming code in various programming languages and provides support for various platforms, interfaces and databases. Develops programming code in various programming languages and provides support for the credit union’s home banking software. Develops programming code and provides support for the credit union’s job scheduler. Troubleshoots technical problems and debugs existing code to implement effective solutions. Assists with implementation of any new code and fixes into existing code. Tests code to ensure quality and adherence to the programming specifications. Creates programming documentation. Prepares flowcharts and logic procedures and diagrams. Assists with providing adequate user documentation for training purposes.Assists with fixing software or hardware problems that affect the credit union’s information technology operations. Ensures hardware and software compatibility across the credit union. Provides systems information for management and staff, and ensures CU systems are updated regularly and consistently. Works closely with the Systems Analyst in the development of software systems and documentation. Also acquires information from vendors, management and staff for the development of new systems to interface with CU systems. Periodically performs Computer Operators job duties to complete system processing throughout the day. Acquires a working knowledge of the account structure in Symitar as well as other credit union applications that are critical to business continuity. Communicates status of assignments on a regular basis. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Able to write sound software code in a well planned layout. Good knowledge of appropriate programming languages. General knowledge of the financial industry is preferred. General knowledge of software platforms and operating systems. Work requires the ability to read and understand complex computer system documentation. Analytical ability to solve problems and handle complex details.Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and to manage multiple projects. The work requires a “good eye” for graphics design and usability. A four-year degree in computer programming/science or equivalent is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must have a working knowledge of AIX / UNIX and that of several programming language such as Python, PHP, Perl, HTML, JavaScript. Preferred is thorough knowledge of Symitar’s PowerOn programming language.
