Communications Intern

This internship will provide experience to an individual in the areas of marketing communications, community relations, and media services. The internship will be located at the East Lansing Technology Innovation Center.

Position Summary
Self-directed and dynamic individual interested in learning about communications in a business incubator and government environment. Primary responsibilities include writing for internal and external audiences, as well as working on a variety of short-term communications projects. Journalism or Communications degree preferred.

This is a part-time temporary position for the summer of 2012 only. It includes a commitment of 15 hours a week at a pay of $7.25 an hour. The internship will begin the week of May 7, 2012 and end the week of July 30, 2012.

Principal Accountability
· Organize, gather and analyze information for a variety of projects.
· Draft copy for press releases, social networking sites (such as facebook.com/twitter) and
marketing materials
· Participate in community outreach and activities as available

Knowledge and Skills
· Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write for both print and electronic media
· Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment on an independent basis
· Able to keep regular office hours

Qualifications
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelors or advanced degree in an applicable discipline. Class Credit or Work-Study credits will be considered for applicants. The Intern will work under the supervision of the City of East Lansing’s Community Development Specialist.



Community Relations Coalition Intern

Interested in community service and leadership? Want to get more involved in your community? Looking to develop your communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills? Desire a paid internship with many transferable skills? 

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then the Community Relations Coalition (CRC) and Michigan State University (MSU) invite your application for the 2012-2013 CRC Internship. MSU undergraduate students at the junior level or above in good academic standing are encouraged to apply for this two-semester, paid internship.

CRC Interns will spend a minimum of 10 hours/week working toward the mission and purposes of the CRC: to build trusting relationships between the communities of East Lansing and MSU by fostering cooperation and communication between neighbors.
STIPEND-$1700/year

QUALIFICATIONS
* CRC Interns must be fully available to attend orientation and training August 20 – 24, 2012; participation in orientation is mandatory for every Intern 
* Interns must reside within the limits of one of the three East Lansing neighborhoods served by the CRC (see the bottom of this page for the URL to a map highlighting these neighborhoods)
* Interns must also be able to attend weekly staff meetings, at a time to be determined after hiring of staff, throughout the fall and spring semesters 
* This internship will not require academic credit, but interns may arrange for credits through their college and the Internship Coordinator 
* CRC Interns will receive a stipend equivalent to $1,700/academic year, paid monthly from September to May
* As stated above, Interns must commit to spending, on average, 10 hours/week toward the mission and purposes of the CRC
