TechSmith Putting $20 Million Into Expansion to Accommodate New Hires

Screen capture and recording technology company TechSmith is ready to invest $20 million in a new facility to house an additional 130 employees.

Right now, the company is spread out in several buildings off Jolly Road in Okemos. TechSmith President William Hamilton wants all of his employees centrally located, and is looking at building a 100,000 square foot building in the MSU tech park to meet this need.

TechSmith’s current location can hold 300 employees. Hamilton has roughly 170 employees, but plans to reach his 300 employee capacity by the time the company moves to the new facility, which will happen in the next 15 months.

“I knew the opportunity was here and I knew that a future stream of people with a high-tech background in computer science was available,” Hamilton says about deciding to start and expand his company in Okemos. “I guess the real question was, why wouldn’t I start a company here?”

Hamilton will hire about 50 people this year.
