Startup Weekend Brings Entrepreneurial Excitement to East Lansing TIC

This weekend, Lansingites taking part in Startup Weekend at the Technology Innovation Center (TIC) in East Lansing may have the opportunity to see their business ideas come to fruition.

Startup Weekend is a global phenomenon that offers future entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their business ideas — in the span of about 90 seconds — to a panel of judges. After everyone shares their idea, the whole group votes on the most interesting project, and the best ideas are chosen by popular-vote.

Then, volunteers with expertise in everything from graphic design to computer programming join teams based on what they are interested in or where their expertise is needed. On Sunday night, teams have five minutes to present their pitch to the panel of judges, who then chose a winner for the weekend.

Attendees can thank MSU student Eric Jorgenson for petitioning to get Startup Weekend in Lansing, after his own idea was chosen at a Startup Weekend event in Detroit.

“Startup Weekend's a great place to share your ideas. You have a panel of experts — who have a better idea about how well this idea will do in the real world — to let you know whether your vision would work as a business,” says Jorgenson. “I know there are many people in Lansing with incredible ideas, and so it only made sense to have something like this brought here.”
