Two hundred businesses in Lansing are about to start receiving a new service, and for six months, they'll get it for free.
Thanks to grant from the Recovery Act, the City of Lansing has been working to develop the Commercial Recycling Pilot Program through
Capital Area Recycling and Trash.
"All participants will receive carts and weekly collection," says Lori Miller, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Lansing. "They also get a free waste assessment where we walk though their business to see what they're recycling and what kind of materials they're generating."
Commercial recycling is intended to become long term after appropriate fees can be determined. They are currently accepting applications for the free pilot phase. The city intends to focus on the target area of
Downtown Lansing and
Old Town during the pilot program.
"We would absolutely include anybody," says Miller. "Office, retail, manufacturing, restaurants. Anybody can apply."
