Editor's Pick: City Saunter for Peace One Day

Why not walk around Lansing and join a group of peace loving people for a quick hang out at Moores Park tonight in honor of Peace One Day? Want more info? This letter from Ariniko of City Saunter expresses it all:

Recently I learned about an initiative to promote a global one day of cease fire/ non violence. This day is observed September 21. In its tenth year this year the non profit expects to reach the entire world and celebrate next year the first Global Peace One Day event. This year they are asking participants to begin a 365 day count down to that event.

On September 21, 2011 I will begin a City Saunter walk on the 1100 block of S. Washington Ave at 4:30. I will then walk down to Mt. Hope Ave turning right (west) and walk to Bradley Ave. I will then turn right (north) and walk to the pavilion at Moores Park. (Roughly 1.2 miles)

I would like to invite any of my friends and family who would like to join me, and didn't walk with me, there at the park (roughly 5:15) to a "bring your dinner", have a picnic, play time, mingle, networking, relaxing hang out at the park impromptu meet up.

At first I had really hoped for a large participation activity with business and the public. However, due to needs for licensing and permits I wasn't able to pull that off. I am hoping that this will be an introductory activity for a much larger celebration next year with a possible gun buy back program, garden harvest surplus sharing, school supply donations, and any other activity that promotes health and peace.

If your business is along my route I would love to have you included in some way. I know Art Alley, Reach Studio, Just B Yoga, St. Vincent DePaul are located on Washington Ave. I would love to hear any ideas you might have or any interest in celebrating Peace One Day. Or you can just high five me as I walk by!

I am also looking for anyone to assist with ideas or planning as well.

Thank you,
Ariniko
