Gravity Works Design and Development Grows Staff, Moves to Old Town

Their new 800 square foot storefront office location in Old Town Lansing means Gravity Works founders Jeff McWherter and Amelia Marschall won’t have to meet at local coffee shops to hold meetings—they can simply roll from desk to desk.

“This space got us excited,” says McWherter. “It’s much more collaborative; we can just wheel over to each other now.”

The web programmers moved into the modernly decorated space at 1132 North Washington Ave. in Old Town a month ago to accommodate Gravity Works’ ever-increasing number of employees and clients. In six months, the company has grown from two staffers to six.

“We are growing at just the right pace,” he says. “Not too fast, not too slow.”

McWherter lives in Webberville and Marschall in Grand Ledge, which they both agree was difficult to coordinate sometimes. They would hold meetings at coffee shops and also were virtual tenets of the Technology Innovation Center (TIC) in East Lansing.

McWherter says the team spent “hours and hours” in the new office, painting, installing furniture and laying a new hardwood floor. The original brick walls and intricate silver ceiling were left untouched.

“It’s nice to have a place to come in to,” he says, “especially in such a likeable part of town.”
