East Lansing Laser Co's New Headquarters Increases Space by 33 Percent

BioPhotonic Solutions just opened its new headquarters in East Lansing, increasing its space from 1,200 square feet to 1,600 square feet.

The laser development company was one of the City of East Lansing’s first SmartZone businesses. SmartZone areas aim to foster high tech companies. BioPhotonic Solutions officially opened its new headquarters March 5. The headquarters are located at 1401 E. Lansing Dr. in East Lansing.

BioPhotonic Solutions has created a new, breakthrough laser technology that will likely impact the medicine, scientific research and homeland security industries. Ultra-fast lasers are used when laser pulses need to happen in femtoseconds, or one millionth of a billionth of a second.

These ultra-short bursts of laser energy can be delivered with extremely high precision and without the attendant heat and shock transfer that accompanies laser pulses of longer duration, thus preventing damage to the surrounding medium to which the laser pulse is being applied.

Ultrafast lasers have been limited because of the need to "tweak" the ultra short laser pulse necessary to optimize its efficiency for repeated bursts. In the past, this action has taken up to two hours, limiting the practicality of ultrafast, femtosecond lasers.

BioPhotonic Solutions recently developed a technology that automates the "tweaking" so it can be applied almost immediately. This technology is called Multiphoton Intrapulse Interference Phase Scan (MIIPS). Using MIIPS technology, ultrafast lasers can now beutilized effectively on a broad array of industrial, scientific, and medical applications, as well as homeland security.
